Smart Video approached 1UP looking for a partner to join them to support them on their mission to change the way people consume video online.  The team had a great idea and a small amount of seed capital to get a prototype of the product off the ground

1UP provided advice and guidance to take the concept from an idea to reality.  We advised Vitascope on the design of user experience flows to ensure the best possible journey for every person who uses the service.

We supported Vitascope to identify the priorities and to plan a phased delivery which would provide the best possible product within the constraints of a tight budget.  We settled on implementing the system using a trusted software stack (Rails for the API and Ember for the front end all wrapped in Cordova to allow us to deliver the product to the Google Play app store).

Produced by DanceXchange in partnership with Birmingham Hippodrome, International Dance Festival Birmingham (also known as IDFB) is a major biennial festival that presents a world-class programme of performance and participation in theatres and public spaces across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Until 2016 IDFB relied on the box offices of each of their venues to manage ticket sales for their events.  This meant that attendees who wanted to buy tickets for multiple events at different venues had to complete transactions at each of the different box offices.   This methodology also put limitations on the data that IDFB could collect about festival attendees.

1UPDesign built a dedicated ticketing app for iOS and Android which allows users to buy multiple tickets at more than one venue in one transaction.  This provides a single point of access for all events and opened up opportunities for ticket discount offers across multiple venues.

The app also allows the festival to start building an in depth picture of the demographics of their audience by collecting relevant data on signup or checkout through the app.  Audience members can also confirm their attendance at free events which will enable the festival to nurture more cautious attendees to attend paid events at future festivals.

Community Resolve approached 1UPDesign looking to develop a mobile app to showcase the resources they have developed on conflict resolution.  Community Resolve have considerable experience in working with others to build positive team, organisation and community relations.

The team wanted to create an interactive, intuitive and approachable way of displaying their content on tablets and mobile devices.  Taking inspiration from the best ePublishing platforms we created a solution for tablet, mobile phone and desktop which allowed the Community Resolve team to create a great looking magazine style publication for online media.  The apps allow the team to publish free or paid for content which can be viewed offline.

The Community Resolve team have a background in traditional publishing and place a large emphasis on well typeset content and use of photographs, diagrams and video to complement the content.  To allow the team to create content in this way we developed a custom CMS with realtime inline preview editor.  This allows the team to see the changes they are making to the content as they happen; they can resize, crop and move images to the perfect location, add video and typographical elements.

The Community Resolve application use our tried and tested Rails, Ember and Cordova stack allowing us to easily deploy to iOS, Android and web.

Views is an online project management and impact reporting platform, developed by social research cooperative Substance. It exists to help organisations prove their excellence in delivery projects for the Third Sector.

Substance approached 1UPDesign to re-imagine the user-flow and user-interface for their Reports module. Used constantly, the Reports module helps Projects themselves and the Agencies that oversee them understand the status of the projects.

To enable agencies to create bespoke reports we built a Report Templating system. This enables agencies to decide on the exact layout and content of their report using a variety of modular tools. These currently include titling, defined and undefined statistics (which are generated automatically from the Projects dataset), case-studies, and media. However the system is modular and new tools can be added at any time.

The User-Interface leans hard on Ajax and Javascript technology to enable a fast, intuitive experience. Tasks such as adding modules, re-ording and saving the template are all handled without browser reload.

Once a Report Template is complete it is disseminated to each of the Projects in that agency. The projects use a similarly simple to use interface to complete the Report and submit to the Agency.

A report versioning system was also built to ensure Agencies could changes Report Templates even after some Projects have filed their reports without fear of losing any data.
